Chapter 5 overview
Desolation It Wrought is the second trial chapter and the busiest collectible chapter so far. Sophia rows to the inner grounds, fights through the battlefield, solves the Four Symbols chain and ends on the Faro crew battle. It is also where the Theseus Echoes begin.
Walkthrough by subchapter
| Subchapter | What happens |
|---|---|
| Row as One | The rowboat approach to the island's inner trial grounds. A quiet opener with an ambush at the beach. |
| Battle Grounds | The trial battlefield. Expect fixed enemies, airborne reinforcements and archers near the zipline. |
| The Four Symbols | The chapter's centrepiece puzzle: collect four symbols by solving light, mirror and vision challenges. |
| Live Up to His Name | The climax. Faro's crew battle and the chapter's payoff, ending with the Greek Sword in hand. |
All 7 puzzle solutions
| Puzzle | Solution | Requires |
|---|---|---|
| Entrance coloured gems | Stand on the rightmost metal ring and align the red, green and blue light beams to the matching gems to open the door. | Minoan Sphere (beam) |
| Central hub pedestal | Interact to raise the four pedestals and open the sealed door. Enter the symbols you find in each side path. | Four symbols |
| First symbol safe path | Jump the ground tiles in this order to avoid the spikes: Dots, Squid, Dots, Flower, Squid. | Floor tiles |
| Skull Pillar gem alignment | Stand on the leftmost ring beside the statue: green to the base gem, red to the upper gem, blue to the ground gem. The tomb opens with the Greek Sword. | Beam colours |
| Beam mirrors (third symbol) | Red mirror to the far-right mirror, then the red receptor; green mirror to the opposite side, then the green receptor; blue mirror behind the stone, across the central walkway, to the right mirror, then the blue receptor. The pillar drops to reveal the third symbol. | Mirrors |
| Theseus vision (fourth symbol) | As Theseus, kill the shield soldier, cross the rising platforms, defeat Cadmos and interact with the pedestal for the fourth symbol. | Theseus vision |
| Multi-door beam puzzle (return) | Green gem, then red and blue onto the statue's eye and spear, then the timed platform jumps past the spikes. | Timed beams |
The Four Symbols puzzles share one logic: the sphere can split and aim light, and mirrors bounce beams to receptors. When a puzzle seems stuck, check which colour is already aligned and work from there.
Collectibles in Chapter 5
| Type | Name | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Blade | Greek Sword | Skull Pillar tomb, after the gem alignment puzzle. Perk: Spinning Slash, critical strikes become a sweeping spin. |
| Artefact (Relic of the Past) | Griffin Figurine | Shimmy dead end opposite the large spike pit. |
| Artefact (Relic of the Past) | Dante's Inferno: Canto XII | Between the two white tents by the water. |
| Artefact (Relic of the Past) | Scarab Amulet | Squid platform shimmy ledge on the First Symbol path. |
| Artefact (Relic of the Past) | Condottiero Stamp | On the ground before the slope gap on the skull statue path. |
| Artefact (Relic of the Present) | Ceremonial Blade | At the base of the tree path. Despite the name it is an Artefact, not a weapon. |
| Charm | Trinket (2) | In a chest outside the small hut behind the barricade. |
| Charm | Seal (2) | In a chest in the left corner of the first ruins cellar. |
| Charm | Bracelet (3) | In a chest after the jump platforms on the chessboard corridor. |
| Charm | Arm Band (3) | In a chest beside the rowboat at the beach, after the hub zipline. |
| Charm (Theseus Echo) | Pierced Coin (1) | Interact with the bowl near the axe symbol. It plays a Theseus dialogue and counts as the first Echo. |
The Pierced Coin is the first of five Theseus Echoes, which all count inside the 30 Charms but also feed the separate In the Name of my Kin trophy. The Ceremonial Blade name confuses people: it is a Relic of the Present, not a weapon.
Combat tips
- The zipline drop zone spawns reinforcements plus an archer; clear the archer first.
- The pond ambush mixes spear soldiers, archers and a club brute. Use the water channels to split them.
- The hub teaches the shield-break kick: kick, then punish the stagger.
- The beach fight pairs archers with shield soldiers; pull the archers with the grappling hook.
- The Cadmos vision fight is a duel; parry his attacks and use the Focus Attack.
Missables and trophy notes
Every collectible here can be recovered through chapter select, so none are permanently missable. The chapter feeds Plunderer (Greek Sword), Hoarder (5 Artefacts), Superstitious (5 Charms) and In the Name of my Kin (Pierced Coin 1). Resonance Points are scattered through the chapter, including several after ambushes, and remain the only missable progress in the game.
Chapter 6, What Lies Beneath, follows immediately and introduces the light-fearing Creature, which changes the pace from combat to survival.
FAQ
What order do I jump the spike tiles?
Dots, Squid, Dots, Flower, Squid. That is the safe sequence for the First Symbol path.
Where is the Greek Sword?
In the Skull Pillar tomb. Stand on the leftmost ring by the statue and align green to the base gem, red to the upper gem and blue to the ground gem.
How do I get the first Theseus Echo?
The Pierced Coin sits near the axe symbol. Interact with the bowl to trigger the Theseus dialogue and collect it.
How many collectibles are in Chapter 5?
Eleven: the Greek Sword, 5 Artefacts and 5 Charms. One of the Charms is the Pierced Coin Echo, so this chapter also starts the In the Name of my Kin hunt.
