What the store listings say
The clearest evidence is the store page itself. Steam lists the game's player modes explicitly, and for Resonance the only entry is Single-player. There is no Co-op, no Online Co-op, no Multiplayer and no PvP tag — the categories a game would need before any of those features could exist.
That is consistent with how Focus Entertainment describes the game: a single-protagonist action adventure where you play as Amicia and the story handles everyone else. Nothing in the official material mentions a second player.
Why the series has never had it
A Plague Tale is built around a specific relationship. In Innocence and Requiem it is Amicia and Hugo; here it is Amicia and the companion the story pairs her with. That bond only works because the second character is written and acted, not piloted. Handing that character to a second player would remove the thing the series is actually about.
Practically, the combat is also built for one person: slow, deliberate, and dependent on which tool you have equipped at that moment. It is not a system designed to be split between two players with their own loadouts.
| Feature | Available? |
|---|---|
| Single-player campaign | Yes |
| Online co-op | No |
| Local / split-screen co-op | No |
| Multiplayer or PvP | No |
| Companion character | Yes — AI controlled only |
What you get instead
The trade for no multiplayer is a campaign that stays tightly authored. Every set piece, puzzle and stealth sequence is tuned for one player and one difficulty curve — nothing is balanced around a second person possibly being absent. If you want to share the experience, the usual route is passing the controller rather than playing together, which works because the game saves at any point.
If co-op is the reason you were considering the game, it is worth knowing before you buy: this is a single-player game and will stay one. If you want something to play alongside someone else, look at games built for it rather than waiting for a mode that is not coming.
Co-op questions
Does Resonance have co-op?
No. There is no co-op mode of any kind — local or online.
Is there online multiplayer?
No. The Steam listing shows Single-player as the only player mode, with no multiplayer, PvP or co-op tags.
Did any A Plague Tale game have co-op?
No. Innocence (2019), Requiem (2022) and this game are all single-player. The series is built around one protagonist and a companion the story controls, not a second player.
Can two people play on one console with a shared screen?
No local co-op or split-screen is offered.
Why do people think it might have multiplayer?
Probably because the game has a companion system — the story pairs you with an AI partner for much of the campaign. A companion is not a second player, and the AI cannot be handed to another controller.
